CORNEAL EXAMINATION         
               PARALLELEPIPED




Corneal striae develop when corneal edema occurs with hydogel contact lens wear, in keratoconus patients and normally in some older patients.  These are seen as small, usually vertical, white lines deep in the corneal stroma.  They are best seen with a parallelepiped and high magnification.  With greater amounts of edema folds develop in the same area which appear as dark lines.
